Being this my last post I chose to reflect on the last 8 weeks of blogging that I was assigned to do…

I was nervous to start my blogging because I didn’t want to post anything that someone may disagree with and start an argument about, I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the daily posts of the blog because of my focus on other classes, but it wasn’t as hard as I thought. I felt a little rushed because we weren’t given much time to complete this assignment. My original topic was suppose to be about a new student starting a new college (for being a transfer), but that would have died down quickly, so I changed the topic to a more fun and interesting one, reality television. I had alot of fun with this topic, because I could go basically anywhere with it, and used different sources of reality rather than the typical MTV shows. Adding the videos and photos def. made a difference in my blogs, it gave it a bit more life. I would now like to become a part of other blogs on the internet just to see how I like it, and if I don’t I can always stop, but there are blogs for everyone out there, you just have to look.

Tabatha Taking Over Reality…finally.

So I was flipping through the channels today and I came across Bravo’s Tabathas Salon Takeover, I’ve never heard of the show before but I was interested so I left it on. I think this show was better than any MTV reality television show ((speaking of, I just recently read that the Italian American Association has asked MTV to cancel Jersey Shore because of the bad impression it gives of Italians, there was no word yet of a response)). It is real drama, real issues, and real soloutions. This is the show that puts the real in reality, if you compare this & then go watch a recent episode of The Hills, you can see a real difference. I’m so glad to end my blogging of reality television with a show that actually has reality in it, you cannot tell its fake whereas on shows like The Hills, Jersey Shore, and Real World, there are set ups made.

Jersey Shore…in what way??

So the people at MTV studios decided that since they didn’t have enough reality shows to ruin the lives of others in California, lets try and destroy the east coast of the country and produce a show that is SUPPOSE to show the sides of the Jersey shore. Which having hearing nothing but BAD things about the show Jersey Shore through facebook posts and several facebook groups created bashing and boycotting the new television show, I decided to see what the fuss was about. I turned on MTV just as background noise while doing work, some show came on with nothing but a bunch of teens in a house yelling at each other, I thought it was a Real World episode, but then it went to commercial and it said Jersey Shore, I laughed…alot. Out of the 22 minutes of air time that the show actually has on air, I watched literally 4 minutes of it and turned it off. One friend of mine, Jim said that it seemed like a bunch of New Yorkers who rented a shore house in New Jersey, and MTV made a show of it. You would think when you hear a reality show, it’d be more like Laguna Beach style, the beach, actual local surfers…not dressed up guido kids. I can’t believe all of the negative comments I’ve seen about this show, only 1 person I’ve heard say something good (but he’s a 34 year old who enjoys that MTV teen drama). I mean just look at the trailer…

25 Days of Christmas!!

Hey everyone! Just a reminder that ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas starts tonight!! It starts at 7pm with The Year Without a Santa Claus (one of my favorites) and then at 8pm with The Santa Clause 3!! I love this time of year, all of the Christmas movies are being played, the old-school animation ones are my all time favorite, and not to forget the 24 hour 7 days a week showing of A Christmas Story! What is everyone’s favorite Christmas movie??

Are They For Real?

Rolling Stone Magazine from May of 2008 was all about the ladies of the Hills, the backstabbing, the relationships, the drama, and the unrealness that goes into the making of the hit MTV series. After 9 hours of photoshooting, there was nothing but chills in the air, due to the break up of the friendship between Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag. Lauren had called it good behavior that she & Heidi didn’t exchange words, because if they had it wouldn’t have been nice. Lauren considered that civil for her and Heidi. Getting into her at home life, they show Lauren as being a normal girl, her father even stated that they were very careful not to spoil her. In the intro of the Hills they show Lauren driving a nice BMV car, which wasn’t hers, her father even said that she never had a “nice” car, she had a car that had dents and scratches, just like any other typical teenaged car.

Here’s the real juicy part, the commonly asked number one question, if the hit reality show is real reality (this is where I got my blog idea started from)… as the article says, “You only have to watch five minutes of The Hills to grow suspicious. You see Heidi and Spencer arguing, and you see a camera shooting Heidi’s face over Spencer’s shoulder, and a camera shooting Spencer’s face over Heidi’s shoulder, and you wonder how that’s possible for an unscripted reality show”. It also continues to explain how the producers don’t just show up at the reality star’s homes, they talk to them in advanced to find out what they’re doing, when they’re working, and who they are seeing.

Way back when in Season 1 of the Hills when Lauren & Heidi move into their new apartment, Heidi introduces Audrina Patridge to Lauren, “her new best friend she met at the pool”. This is how Audrina really met Heidi…

“Audrina wasn’t even friends with anyone on The Hills: She was discovered lying by the pool of her apartment complex by DiVello, who was scouting the place Lauren and Heidi had moved into (fun fact: Tracy Morgan also lived there). “I was just laying out, and Adam said to me, ‘Have you ever thought of acting?’ He says he’s from MTV, and I was like, ‘No, no, no — I’m not doing one of those dating shows.’” Once assured DiVello wasn’t from a dating show, Audrina agreed to meet with other Hills producers: “You just go in and tell them who you are, where you’re from, where you work, who your friends are.” She was quickly hired. “I met Heidi first,” she says. But even that encounter had to be steered a bit, she explains. “They were so afraid we were going to meet without the cameras there. So they were like, ‘OK, you guys, we’re going to be there at the pool all day on this day, so please try not to go down there before.’”

I love my daily intake of The Hills, it will always be my favorite show, whether if it’s real or fake, I just love the people in it, because people can relate to it. I’ll end this with a quote from Lo Bosworth (Lauren Conrad’s best friend)….”The editing room is a magical place for The Hills,” says Lo. “They really take little nothings and turn them into story lines.”

How NOT to be Famous

Television’s favorite on air/off air reality couple, Heidi & Spencer Pratt (aka Speidi) has done it all (except for making mini Speidis’), they recently released their book “How to Become Famous”, which Spencer probably wrote more of than Heidi ever did. You would think just being Lauren Conrad’s best friend was enough explanation for Heidi’s debute, but no, that wasn’t enough. Spencer’s public debute was thanks to being on Brody Jenner’s Princes of Malibu television show, not that he was good enough to become a household name at the time, he had to be “ introduced” to Heidi at some point during The Hills run to get his spotlight.

Anyway, the ten chapter book is about Heidi and Spencer’s 10-step plan on how to go from nobodies to notorious , the way they claim they did it themselves. They never mention names of the show they are on or their enemies due to “you know, legal stuff,” but it’s easy to figure out who they mean. Such steps include, how to play the villian and how getting work done is your job. Of course the book didn’t make the best seller’s list, whereas Lauren Conrad, the original starlet of The Hills, came out with her novel L.A. Candy earlier in the year, it became on the top ten New York Times Best Sellers. The novel is now in the works of becoming a movie, in which Lauren Conrad chooses not to be in because she calims to be a horrible actress. I think its funny how Heidi and Spencer try so hard to become famous that they get so desperate that they have to write a book about how to become famous, in their own ridiculous staged way.

“25 Years Feels Rights,” says Oprah

I haven’t really involved talk shows onto my blog yet, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to start. On Friday, November 20th, Oprah Winfrey announced on television that after 25 years of having a wonderful run, that next seaon will be her last season of the Oprah Winfrey show. She also stated that in the next 18-20 months will be the best, mindblowing, exciting episodes yet to come. Now what could this possibly mean? More celebrities on the show that shes never had?? Giving away more insane giveaways? Will the Christmas episode this year and next year be the most giving ones yet?? She’s done pretty much everything, gave away nearly everything there possible could be given away, except a house (correct me if I’m wrong). Her audience ticket show requests will probably triple in ticket requests, I know there was a few year reservation wait for them, but that could have changed by now. It will be sad to see her go on September 9, 2011, but now the next question is, who will be the new queen of talk shows?? A recent Yahoo! poll had voters submit their favored choice for the next Queen Bee and the winner came out to be Ellen DeGeneres. I think it might be a very good possiblity for the crown to be passed down to Ellen.

Vampires Beware

I know this isn’t quite under the reality show list, but I figured since the famous vampire saga Twilight has taken a huge takeoff in success and the sequel New Moon had a record breaking $140.7 million on its opening weekend last weekend, I figured I would take the time to mention it. Since Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight first hit the theatres last November, it has been nothing but vampire craziness, television series such as Vampire Diaries and True Blood have been created, and True Blood hasn’t been bigger since Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’ve talked to a variety of people and their opinions on the vampire obsession and when it comes to Twilight people just think its a dumb idea, but thats only after watching the movie. I have read all 4 books of the Twilight saga, and it’s such a different viewpoint rather than watching a two hour movie, the books have more to them, its more in depth and more real. I have defended it as much as I can, but some people never get it, which I can live with. I never got into the two television series based around the vampire ideas but I’ve heard mixed reviews. Anyone care to say what they think about the vampie craze?

Here is a recap of last night’s episode of The Hills, Kristin & Brody are sort of back on again, they went to club Playhouse with friends & just went for drinks and to have fun, & at the SAME EXACT TIME, Brody’s recent ex, Jayde just happens to show up with her friends for drinks. Obviously, trouble hit the fan with pushing, yelling, cursing, name calling, etc. This isnt the first time in The Hills/Laguna Beach history that rival characters have just happened to be at the same club (out of all of the many in L.A.) and have a fight or problem occur. My mom chimed in and thinks that they’re told where to go just for the good drama of it, when I first was sucked in the Laguna Beach world about 4 years ago I never thought of it, but now that I see just HOW MUCH it occurs, its starting to get a little ridiculous. Anyone agree??

gone too far, on & off camera

I know that this wasnt apart of my list of shows I was going to be spotlighting on for my blog, but as I would scroll through the different “reality” shows that MTV has under their belt, I came across DJ AM’s “Gone Too Far”. It’s about how DJ AM would go to people’s houses, particularly those with a drug problem and try to help them & their family out and lead to an intervention to try and get the drug user some help. I think its weird that this show series was first aired on MTV a few weeks after DJ AM’s death due to a drug overdose (after he’s been trying to help others beat their drug addiction)….anyone agree?
